I’m still coming down from an amazing Laneway Festival a week or so ago. One of the last additions to the line-up, replacing Lykke Li at all locations, was Tkay Maidza, and wow! She was one of the highlights of the day, and that’s a huge ask when up against St. Vincent, Royal Blood, Future Islands and FKA Twigs!
Having burst onto the scene about a year and half ago with Brontosaurus, Tkay has been smashing it with gigs and festivals aplenty and has recently been announced as the support for Charli XCX’s sideshows.
…and she’s 18.

So great to have such a young, exciting talent in this country who is fun and well spoken.
I’m not going to compare her to anyone. I think she’s got a fresh sound that has captured a wide audience in this country and is sure to take her far. There’s no need to compare her to other female rappers on the scene.
Her latest song, M.O.B. (aka Money over Bitches), comes off her Switch Tape Mixtape of a few months ago and it’s bangin’. Half pop, half rave, this song shows her confidence is jumping with every release along with the production.
