For the first time, I’ll be heading up to Brisbane this September to check out the epic music conference that is BIGSOUND. In it’s 15th year, BIGSOUND is easily the biggest music conference in Australia and it seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year.
This year it includes 152 bands playing over three nights, PLUS over 80 speakers on a huge variety of panels and talks through the three days.
The schedule is intimidating. Who do I need to make sure I check out? Which bands are going to be the ones that everyone is talking about? Why are these bands all playing at the same time as these bands? Why are my ears ringing? How do I stop drinking?
Well, there’s 16 days till the conference and 152 acts to check out, so I’d better start researching! That makes it 9.5 bands a day to check out. Hey, I’ve just been made redundant, I can do this!

I’ve done a spreadsheet up to try and work out which bands I immediately recognise. It seems that I have heard of 69 of these bands. That’s 45%. Under half. Disappointing.
Time to get to work! Over the next two and a bit weeks, I will try to reveal a bit more about the 152 acts on the bill and if you’re heading up to BIGSOUND, maybe it’ll give you a bit of a cheat sheet as to who you want to check out!
